About CFEC

At the Cox Family Enterprise Center, we value the Family Enterprise Community above all else. As the oldest family business center in the world, we have developed and explored a variety of strategies for enhancing the collective interests of families and businesses – in our region, and beyond.

We holistically support business families by creating comprehensive education tailored to their needs. For those working within family enterprises, we offer programs designed to foster greater strength and services intended to generate synergy in both family and business contexts. For those working as advisors to business families, we have designed education to deepen their perspectives and equip them with the necessary skills for working in the field.

Bookending these efforts, we engage in industry-shaping research and undergraduate and graduate education through the Coles College of Business. At the core of these efforts perpetually remains our commitment to education as a crucial tool for enhancing the wealth and success of the entire community.

Center History

Georgia’s only university based resource dedicated to the needs of family enterprises. And one of the oldest Center’s of its kind. Anywhere.

Opened by Dr. Craig Aronoff with the Coles College of Business in 1987, the Cox Family Enterprise Center (CFEC) has been home to three generations of talented leadership. Named in recognition of numerous generous donations from the James M. Cox Foundation, the CFEC has led the field from the beginning.

And since the late 1980s, the CFEC has received global attention. Under the tutelage of Dr. Joe Astrachan, the Center introduced the first Executive MBA for Families in Business. Not content to rest, we then launched the The Family Business Review, the first journal dedicated to family business interests.

Now, with the attuned guidance of Dr. Gaia Marchisio, the CFEC is weaving the threads of its foundations together. Continuing to lead globally with recognized research, we have refocused our attentions on bolstering connections in the Southeast. With new programs and fresh talent, the Center is bursting with inventive resources for our growing business family community.
