If you are having trouble registering for a business course, read the following for information that may help you solve your problem.
*******************************************
NEW UNIVERSITY POLICY
KSU has decided that students will not be allowed to re-enroll in a course that they have already taken or attempted twice without special permission. This new policy goes into effect in the November Early Registration period for Spring 2012. Special permission to re-enroll in business courses must be requested from the Coles College. The Department Chairs will not be handling these requests. Use the link below to get more information about how to request special permission.
Click here for more information about the new KSU policy and how to request special permission.
*******************************************
Make sure the KSU Registration System is open and you are eligible to register
Check the "Registration" section of the Registrar’s website for the days/times the system is open.
Only currently enrolled students may register during the “Early Registration” periods.
The "Time Ticket" section on the Registrar’s website explains how to find out your assigned registration time.
Make sure you meet the CURRENT prerequisites for the course
It is a University policy that all students must meet the *CURRENT* prerequisites for courses, regardless of when they started at KSU.
You can find the current prerequisites for a course in the "Courses" section of the online KSU Undergraduate Catalog.
You can also find the current prerequisites for a course in the KSU Registration system. Use the Class Search function, and when you have a listing for a course, click on the course title to get the detailed course information, which includes the current prerequisites.
Information for NONBUSINESS majors wanting upper-division business courses
If the business course you want to take is an upper-division course (3000- or 4000-level), you must request a “Prerequisite Override” in order to be allowed to register for the course. Nonbusiness majors are screened for entry to all upper-division business courses. This screening is not done for lower-division business courses.
You will not be approved to take 4000-level business courses if you have not made sufficient progress on your Major courses.
See the “Prerequisite Override” information below.
"Prerequisite Override" Requests
You may need to request a Prerequisite Override if you took the prerequisite course under a different number or name than the one the registration system is set to check. This happens most often with MATH courses and courses taken a long time ago.
If you are a business major, the prerequisites for all upper-division business courses include completion of the Sophomore GPA Requirement. You MIGHT receive a limited number of Prerequisite Overrides for 3000-level business courses IF you are close to successfully completing the Sophomore GPA Requirement and you have not had to repeat any of the courses.
No prerequisite overrides are given for 4000-level business courses to business students who have not been admitted to Coles.
The Coles College has an online prerequisite override request system. This system generally opens several days before a registration period starts, and we recommend that you put your requests in as early as possible. The turnaround time for a decision ranges from a few hours to 5-7 business days depending on the number of requests coming into the system. Even though you submit the requests online, each request must be reviewed and researched by hand.
The online prerequisite override request system closes on the next-to-the-last day of the registration period. On the last day of the registration period, we process the requests that came in before the online system closed, and if we have time, we will process walk-in requests made at the Business Undergraduate Advising Center in BB 431.
If you are a business major who has not completed the Sophomore GPA Requirement and you are having to ask for special permission to take a Sophomore GPA Requirement course more than twice, your requests for 3000-level prerequisite overrides will not be considered until after your special permission request has been processed. If your special permission request is denied, you will not be given any 3000-level prerequisite overrides. If your special permission request is approved, your 3000-level prerequisite override requests will be then be reviewed by the normal system. No overrides are guaranteed.
"Closed Class Override" Requests
“Closed Class Overrides” are NOT handled through the Coles online system.
“Closed Class Overrides” are handled within the department offering the course.
“Closed Class Overrides” are NOT given prior to the Drop/Add Registration period.
The Coles College Department Chairs require students to continue to attempt to get into the courses they want during the registration periods prior to Drop/Add. Often you will be able to get into the courses you want when another student changes his/her schedule during the earlier registration periods. Also, many undergraduate business courses have a few seats added between the earlier registration periods and the Drop/Add period so you can get a seat on the first day of Drop/Add.
If you have not been able to add the course you want during the earlier registration periods or on the first day of Drop/Add, then contact the Department Chair to make your request for a "Closed Class Override."
Be sure to attend the first day of class and make contact with the instructor. If you are given an override into a closed class, you do not want to have missed any of the class.

The Business Undergraduate Advising Center is located in Room 431 of the Burruss Building (BB) and can be reached at 770-423-6055.
