Degree
The degree you will receive as a business major at KSU is the BBA - Bachelor of Business Administration. The BBA requires 123 semester hours.
Major
You will choose a specific Major for your BBA from the nine that we offer: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Information Security & Assurance, International Business, Management, Marketing, and Professional Sales. Many of the degree requirements are the same across all of our Majors, so you do not have to know which specific Major you want to do until early in your junior year. You can declare yourself a "Business - Undecided" major until you decide. It is best though to make a decision as soon as possible because your Major might affect what you want to schedule each term. This is especially true for the International Business Major which has required language courses that you will want to be working on during your first and second years. Select the Majors link in this section for information about each Major.
Common Requirements for All Business Majors
All business students must complete the same KSU General Education requirements. There is also a common set of required Business Core courses, which provide a broad foundation of knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the functional areas of business. After completing the Lower-Division Business Core courses and meeting a Sophomore GPA Requirement and other requirements, business students must apply for admission into the Coles College Professional Program. Admission to the Professional Program is required in order for business majors to continue into upper-division business courses. Additional information about this topic is available in the Admission to Coles section of this site.
Once admitted to the Coles Professional Program, students take the Upper-Division Business Core courses and courses in their Major. The Major Field courses and some other requirements differ by Major. Along with developing technical expertise, our business courses have learning goals in the areas of ethics, critical thinking, interaction, technology, and global perspectives.
In addition to completing specific courses and being admitted to the Coles Professional Program, there are grade, residency, and other requirements that you must meet in order to earn your degree from KSU.
Minor
The Coles College makes available ten Minors: Accounting, Business Law, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Information Security & Assurance, Management, Marketing, Operations & Purchasing, and Professional Sales. Business majors are not required to earn a Minor. If you choose to do a Minor, be aware that all of the hours necessary to complete the Minor will not fit within your business program, so you will be taking some additional hours beyond the 123 required to get your BBA degree.
Course Options
We offer courses day and night during the week and some classes on the weekend. In addition to face-to-face classes, we offer many business courses online. At this time, all of the Business Core courses are offered in an online format at least once a year. Students who are interested in a Management major can complete that entire Major online. For additional information about online options, select the Online BBA link in this section.
