How This System Works

  • For any of the override sites, we recommend that you put your requests in as soon as the system opens.
  • The turnaround time for a decision ranges from a few hours to 5-7 business days depending on the number of requests coming into the system. Although you submit your requests online, each request must be reviewed and researched by hand. We process them in the order received, and we receive thousands of requests during each registration period.
  • Please remember that overrides are NOT automatically granted. Your file will be reviewed, and a Prerequisite Override will be approved only if you have satisfactory preparation and you are eligible to take the course you are requesting.
  • You will receive an email telling you whether your request has been approved or denied. It will be sent to the email address you included in the request form.
  • Approval for an override does not mean that you are enrolled in the class - you must still add the class the normal way after the override is approved.

Will My Request Be Approved?

  • If you have a course substitution, the KSU registration system cannot “read” the substitutions in your file. It will not let you register for a course if you have a substitution for the prerequisite. A common example is a substitution of MATH 1107 for ECON 2300. Click here to make a Special Override Request. It is a University policy that students must meet the CURRENT prerequisites for courses, regardless of when they started at KSU. Go to the online KSU Undergraduate Catalog at catalog.kennesaw.edu to see the prerequisites for the courses you want to take. Look in the "Courses" section near the bottom of the menu on the right side of the page. You will NOT be given a Prerequisite Override to skip a prerequisite simply because it was not in the Catalog in your Catalog Year.
  • BUSINESS majors: All 3000- and 4000-level business courses have completion of the Sophomore GPA Requirement as one of your prerequisites. Be sure to submit your requests in priority order so your most important requests are considered first. Do not submit an excessive number of requests.
  • *No* Prerequisite Overrides are given for 4000-level business courses to business majors who have not been admitted to Coles.
  • NONBUSINESS majors: If you are working on a Minor in a business area, we suggest you submit the Request for Formal Minor form to the Business Undergraduate Advising Center (BB 431). If we have this form with your planned Minor courses on file in the Advising Center, it can speed up the approval of your requests.
  • NONBUSINESS majors: You will not be approved to take 4000-level business courses if you have not made sufficient progress on your Major courses, even if you have the specific business course prerequisites.
  • INTS majors: If you are an INTS major using Business as one of your disciplinary areas, you must have an APPROVED program proposal on file in the Office for Undergraduate Business Programs in order to take upper-division business courses. You must also complete the lower-division business courses in your approved program before requesting permission for the upper-division courses.

System Hours of Operation

  • You may submit your request at any time that the online system is open.
  • Remember that requests are reviewed only on business days during regular business hours.
  • Remember the online system closes the day before a registration period ends to allow time for processing of the requests to be completed. On the last day of registration, if time allows, we will process requests submitted in person at the Business Undergraduate Advising Center (BB 431).
  • Given the new extended registration periods that KSU is using, there may be times when the system has to be down for maintenance.

BUSINESS majors: All 3000- and 4000-level business courses have completion of the Sophomore GPA Requirement as one of your prerequisites. Be sure to submit your requests in priority order so your most important requests are considered first. Do not submit an excessive number of requests.

Closed Class Override Requests

  • Closed Class Override requests are handled by the Department offering the course, NOT by the Coles Undergraduate Advising Center.
  • The Coles College Department Chairs require students to continue to attempt to get into the courses they want throughout the registration periods prior to Drop/Add. There is turnover in these courses as students change schedules and most undergraduate business courses have a few seats added just prior to the Final Registration and Drop/Add periods. So, you have a chance to get a seat on the first day of Final Registration and Drop/Add.
  • If you have not been able to add the course you want after the first day of Drop/Add, then you may request a Closed Class Override from the appropriate Department Chair, using the following links:
  • Be sure to attend the first day of class and make contact with the instructor. If you are given an override into a closed class, you do not want to have missed any of the class.
  • As a reminder, Closed Class Override requests generally are NOT considered prior to the Drop/Add Registration period.

Re-enrollment Policy

Students cannot re-enroll in a course that they have already taken or attempted twice without special permission. Special permission to re-enroll in business courses must be requested from the Coles College. The Department Chairs will not be handling these requests. Use the link below to get more information about how to request special permission.
