Editorial: Housing

The Marietta Daily Journal

It was the housing market that helped spark the current recession, and it will be the housing market that pulls us out of it.

That was the assessment of Kennesaw State University economics professor Dr. Donald Sabbarese at the Cumberland Galleria Showcase on Wednesday at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. And it's the assessment of many others as well - which is a big reason to be exceptionally disappointed that the final version of President Obama's $787 billion stimulus lollapalooza passed by Congress did not include a proposal by U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) to offer a $15,000 tax credit for anyone who purchased a home in the next year. That measure would have invigorated the housing market far sooner than anything else in that bill.

… "Since the housing sector has put us in this recession, it is critical that the housing market pull us out of this recession," Sabbarese said.
