Awareness through assessment and coachingThe Coles Executive MBA provides students with nine tools of personal assessment to gain awareness of their strengths and vulnerabilities. Unlike other programs, Coles takes personal development a step further by providing students not only with the feedback from these tools, but with frameworks and devoted executive coaches that help students use this information to create a professional and personal plan to thrive with. Executive coaching and personal assessments typically cost thousands of dollars. At Coles, tests and coaching are included in tuition. The a-ha in the Coles Executive MBA program are the personal tools. I came to the program for the world-class MBA curriculum but I am experiencing so much more. Executive CoachingColes is one of two Executive MBA programs globally that offers Program Long Executive Coaching. Within the last decade the field of Executive Coaching has emerged as a proven method for achieving personal and professional development. Coaching is defined as a helping relationship where one person works with others (an individual or team) to discover, access, and leverage their abilities to enhance personal and professional performance. The Executive Coaching dimension of the Coles Executive MBA consists of a one on one collaborative relationship between a student and an executive volunteer of the student’s choice. Most students find a coach with little difficulty, however support in finding a coach is available through Coles strong alumni network. The relationship continues throughout the duration of the program and Coles provides the student and the coach with training to create productive relationships. Personal InventoriesThe best leaders don’t just understand business, they understand themselves and how they interact with others. Through a series of personal inventories to include a personality inventory, a leadership practices inventory, competing values skills survey, the Hermann Brain Dominance Inventory and journaling students discover their innate gifts and talents and how to use their abilities to become a thriving team member, leader and executive. At first I was skeptical of the personal inventories and journaling, but I soon came to realize that reflection allows me to think in new ways while advancing my personal and professional goals. Personal Development PlanAt the onset of the program, Coles asks each student to set at least one goal around a personal mission statement.
