Dr. Mary Callahan Hill is a Professor of Accounting at Kennesaw State University.  Mary grew up in Southern California received a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of California at Los Angeles and a Masters of Business Administration from The University of Southern California.  She then worked for Exxon Chemical Americas as an accounting supervisor/systems analyst followed by five years as an information systems consultant working two years with a big-8 accounting firm and three as an independent consultant.  During her consulting work, she implemented accounting systems for a variety of companies from small local firms to large public firms.  Her work experience led her to an appreciation for the central importance of accounting information systems in today’s business world. 

 

Mary received her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 1993 and has taught full time since then.  She specializes in the area of Accounting Information Systems at the undergraduate and graduate level, only occasionally teaching other courses.  She has won the accounting graduate teaching award and along with her students a national Accounting Information System case competition.

 

Mary’s research addresses issues related to accounting systems and control, auditing, and the art and improvement of accounting education.  Mary has published in such journals as Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, Advances in Behavioral Research, Journal of Information Systems, The CPA Journal, Internal Auditing, Issues in Accounting Education, Advances in Accounting Education, and The Accounting Educators Journal.  Mary has received grants to undertake research from KPMG Peat Marwick Foundation's Research Opportunities in Auditing Program, American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) through the Women and Family Issues Research Facilitation Project and from both Kennesaw State University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Given her specialty in Accounting Systems, Mary is actively involved in the Accounting Information Systems Educators association serving as Secretary, Research Chair, and President of that organization.  She is also actively involved in the American Accounting Association.
