Robinson's primary areas of specialization are: (1) Strategic Management; (2) Entrepreneurship; (3) Industry Analysis; and (4) Business Performance Evaluation. Prior to joining the faculty at Kennesaw State University, Robinson taught at The University of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia and The University of Georgia. Robinson obtained his Ph.D. in Strategic Management & Entrepreneurship from The University of Georgia in June of 1995.
Robinson's dissertation, Measures of Entrepreneurial Value Creation: An Investigation of the Impact of Strategy and Industry Structure on the Economic Performance of Independent New Ventures won the 1996 Heizer Doctoral Dissertation Award for Outstanding Research in the Field of New Enterprise Development. The Heizer Award is an internationally competitive award sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management given to the best dissertation research in the area of New Enterprise Development. Robinson also received the 1999 Michael H. Mescon/Coles College of Business Best Empirical Paper Award from the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management and the 2001 Best Paper Award for the Entrepreneurship/Ethics Track of the Southern Management Association.
Robinson's dissertation proposal was awarded the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Fellowship. This competitively awarded fellowship provided $15,000 in financial support for dissertation research completed by June of 1995 in the field of Entrepreneurship. During his Ph.D. studies, Robinson received the Comer Fellowship from the Terry College of Business, which rewards superior doctoral research accomplishments at The University of Georgia.
Robinson's research has been published in Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Frontiers of Entrepreneurship Research, and Business Journal for Entrepreneurs. In addition, Robinson has presented various research papers in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Mexico, and Belgium. The topics of these papers have ranged from research on the best practices and innovations of leading Australian business enterprises presented at conferences in Australia and Canada to determinants of performance for high potential entrepreneurial ventures presented at international conferences held in the U.S., Australia, and Belgium, and Mexico. Robinson has also participated in various symposia and workshops addressing entrepreneurship and strategic management research.
Robinson received three excellence in teaching awards while at The University of Georgia: (1) The University of Georgia's Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award (Lifetime Award) in 1994; (2) The Department of Management's Doctoral Student Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1994; and (3) The Department of Management's Doctoral Student Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1995. Robinson was also selected as a university wide participant for the Teaching Assistant Mentor Program at UGA.
In 2001, Robinson received a Coles College of Business Instructional Innovation Award. More recently, Robinson received the 2007 Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University’s Outstanding Teaching Award from among over 100 faculty members in the Coles College of Business.
Robinson's primary business experience consists of serving as the General Manager and Chief Financial Officer of a privately owned family business. During his tenure, Robinson managed (1) the turnaround of the business from a negative net worth position, and (2) the subsequent expansion of the business, which substantially increased the value of the business and the return to shareholders. Robinson has also consulted with various businesses, ranging from family held growth oriented firms experiencing transitional difficulties to large mature firms attempting to redefine their business strategies in the face of increased turbulence in their external environment. More recently, Robinson has delved into Real Estate activities.
As a result of Robinson’s activities, he has been selected for inclusion in the Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Finance & Industry, and Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
