Dr. Hair is Professor of Marketing in the Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University. He previously held the Copeland Endowed Chair of Franchising and was the Director, Entrepreneurship Institute, Ourso College of Business, Louisiana State University. He was a United States Steel Foundation Fellow at the University of Florida, Gainesville, where he earned his Ph.D. in Marketing in 1971. He has published over 30 books, including Marketing, South-Western Publishing Company, 8th edition 2006; (South African, Portuguese, Malaysian, Australian & Spanish-language editions also available); Marketing Essentials, South-Western Publishing Company, 4th edition 2005; Multivariate Data Analysis, Prentice-Hall, 6th edition, 2006; Essentials of Business Research Methods, Wiley, 2003, Marketing Research, Irwin, 3rd Edition 2006; Great Ideas for Teaching Marketing, South-Western Publishing Company, 6th edition 2002; Professional Sales Management, Thompson Learning, 3rd Edition, 1999 (Spanish-language edition also); Sales Management, Random House, 1983; and Effective Selling, South-Western Publishing Company, 8th Edition, 1991. He also has published numerous articles in professional journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Business/Chicago, Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Experimental Education, Business Horizons, Journal of Retailing, Marketing Education Review, Journal of Marketing Education, Managerial Planning, Medical and Marketing Media, Drugs in Health Care, Multivariate Behavioral Research, Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Marketing, and others.
In May 2004, he was recognized by the Academy of Marketing Science for its Outstanding Marketing Teaching Excellence Award. Moreover, in 2003 the LSU Entrepreneurship Institute under his leadership was recognized nationally by Entrepreneurship Magazine as one of the top 12 programs in the USA, and also was ranked #3 in the USA in 2004 and 2005 by Forbes Magazine/Princeton Review. Finally, he frequently is invited to give lectures on multivariate data analysis at universities in Europe, Australia and other locations outside the U.S.
Currently he is President of the Society for Marketing Advances, and Program Chair for the 2005 Academy of Marketing Science Conference. He has been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Marketing Advances, the Academy of Marketing Science, and Southwestern Marketing Association. He also is past President and Secretary of the Academy of Marketing Science, has served as President and Vice-President for Academic Affairs for the American Institute for Decision Sciences, Southeast Section, as Program Chairperson, Proceedings Editor, Vice President and Council Member for the Decision Sciences Institute, as President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Program Chairperson for the Southern Marketing Association, as President for the Association for Healthcare Research, and as President, Vice-President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Southwestern Marketing Association.
He has been retained as a marketing consultant for firms in the food, lodging, healthcare, transportation, banking, utilities, and electronics industries, as well as by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Interior. He also has provided expert testimony in a wide variety of cases, most often in the areas of marketing, entrepreneurship, and economic analysis. He has planned/presented executive development and management training programs for numerous companies in a wide variety of industries.
