DOYLE Z. WILLIAMS

Doyle Z. Williams, Ph.D., CPA, is a Senior Scholar in the Department of Accounting at Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, GA. He is Dean Emeritus of the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas where in August 2005, he completed twelve years serving as Dean of the Sam M. Walton College of Business and as the Sam M. Walton Leadership Chair holder. Under his leadership, the Walton College was rated in a tie for the most improved business school in the United States in rankings by US News & World Report. During the capital campaign that ended June 30, 2005, the Walton College raised over $223 million, which ranks among the highest campaign outcomes for any business school.

Professor Williams served as Chair of AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business for 2004-2005. AACSB is the international accrediting body for business schools. Over 500 business schools are AACSB accredited around the world. He currently chairs the awards committee for the American Institute of CPAs and serves on the Consultative Advisory Group for the International Accounting Education Standards Board of IFAC. He also serves as a consultant to the AICPA Foundation.

He served as the founding Dean of the School of Accounting at the University of Southern California, leading the accounting school to be among the top five in the nation. He also served for two years as Interim Dean of the USC School of Business Administration. He has served on the faculty and as Coordinator for the Area of Accounting at Texas Tech University. He was the Chairman of the Accounting Education Change Commission from its inception in 1989 to 1993.

He holds a B.S. degree in Accounting from Northwestern State University of Louisiana and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Louisiana State University.

He has authored over forty-five articles and several monographs and has contributed to over ten books.

His honors include receiving the Beta Alpha Psi’s National Council Accountant of the Year Award, California Society of CPAs Distinguished Professor Award, USC School of Accounting’s Distinguished Service Award, the AICPA’s Outstanding Accounting Educator Award, the Federation of Schools of Accountancy Faculty Merit Award, the Academy of Business Administration’s National Leadership Award, the American Accounting Association’s Outstanding Accounting Educator Award, and the Arkansas Society of CPA’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Education. In 2002, he received the American Institute of CPA’s Gold Medal, its highest honor. In February 2005, the University of Arkansas established the Doyle Z. and Maynette Derr Williams Chair in his and Maynette’s honor. In March 2007, he was inducted into the Louisiana State University College of Business Hall of Distinction.

His prior offices include serving as President of the American Accounting Association, Vice President and Member of the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Vice President and Trustee for the California CPA Foundation for Education and Research, President of the Educational Foundation of the Texas Society of CPAs, President of the Administrators of Accounting Programs, President of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy, President of the Southwestern Business Deans’ Association, a member of the Advisory Board for the National Commission on Fraudulent Financial Reporting, Regent for the Chartered Bank Auditor Program, and Chairman of Arkansas Quality Awards, Inc.
