Marketing and Professional Sales

Would you like to have a future in a field that does not think in black and white but thinks in color; that encourages use of your imagination and creativity; that helps people solve their problems and meet their goals; that specializes in building relationships; and can lead to a personally satisfying and financially rewarding career?  If you said YES to any or all of the above questions, then you need to become a marketing or professional sales major.

The marketing curriculum at KSU merges marketing theory with real-world practice to prepare students for working with either for-profit or nonprofit organizations.  Students may choose a general program of study or one of the specialized tracks including marketing communication, retail management or professional selling.  In addition, we offer study abroad tour programs, both at the undergraduate and graduate level to help our students grow in cultural competence while traveling with others in a culture different from one’s own.  Since 1999, more that 400 business students have participated in our study abroad tours by visiting such vibrant cities as London, Paris, Brussels, Rome, Milan and Florence.  Our department also annually hosts and sponsors the National Collegiate Sales Competition.  Last year the program brought together 62 of the top collegiate sales students from 32 universities across the country and Mexico for three days of exciting and intense sales role-play competition and career networking opportunities.

Marketing and professional sales affects us every day of our lives.  A field devoted to promoting an organization’s goods and services to potential customers, marketing helps deliver to average consumers a standard of living that would have been inconceivable to previous generations.  Majoring in marketing can lead to rewarding careers in marketing, sales or sales management.  Our graduates have careers such as advertising manager, buyer, manufacturer sales representative, market research analyst, sales manager, and sports/special events executives, just to name a few.

We invite you to visit with our faculty to learn more about this dynamic department, and then to make your most important career move by majoring in marketing or professional sales.
